Earth friendly baby products for a healthy childhood.

Monday, October 6th, 2008

The first few years after the birth of the baby are extremely critical. This is the time when you should commit to using products that are healthy as well as safe for the baby. You must remember that babies have sensitive skin and hence they can easily absorb the toxic materials that might be there in the baby care products that you are using. A baby does not have the capacity to process the toxins and these have far reaching effects on the body. Chemicals present in the products are unsafe for your child and also cause pollution to the planet. Concern for the environment and worries about effects of chemicals on babies have encouraged many parents to opt for earth friendly baby products.

While most parents are aware of the importance of giving their children healthy food, it is equally important to know that what we apply on their skin, or what they wear should also be given due consideration. Organic baby accessories do not contain the chemicals that are found in other baby products. The usage of such products makes it easy for you to take care of your baby. The earth friendly baby products are made of natural, organic materials that are good for the baby. If you are expecting a baby you should consider buying the baby essentials ahead. There are a number of accessories that you would require and you can check out the specialty stores to get an idea of what products you should buy for your baby. With the right baby accessories, it is easier to manage a baby.

Natural fibers including organic cotton are used to manufacture organic baby products. Organic cotton is grown as well as processed without the use of any harmful chemical pesticides or fertilizers. Also there are no finishing chemicals that are used such as fire-retardants or bleaches. The feel of such cotton next to the skin makes ventilation possible. This in turn absorbs body moisture and helps in maintaining a steady body temperature. A baby’s sensitive skin needs such fabric in the various accessories that it interacts with. Merino wool is another material that is used to make organic baby products. It is an excellent fabric for babies. It absorbs the moisture of the body and allows good airflow. This again helps in keeping the body temperature stable. Synthetic fibers on the other hand results in overheating. Merino wool is also soft and non-irritating.

It is of paramount importance to ensure that the baby accessories that are close to the skin of a baby are natural, organic and safe. The synthetic products are cheaper but in the long run there are high costs involved in the form of treatments for various diseases that have been caused by the use of such products. It has a negative impact on the quality of their lives. Earth friendly baby products have no problems with the sensitive skin of the baby. There are no rashes or side effects that develop with the usage of such products. It is however important to check the reputation of the seller before you buy any organic baby products of a company.

Being Stealth in Health

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Given a choice between material benefits and robust health, every wise human being with a bit of introspection, would wish living a prolonged life of excellent health and high flying spirits. However, gone are the days of the adage that read thus: “Health is Wealth”. Sizzling past the call of nature on a fast track of contemporary life style, we are surging ahead to meet the ostensible deadlines of economic and social requirements. Everyone of us now seek and depend upon the elixir of life from competitive quotes of health care and health insurance programs while swapping that age old adage on a trendy kinky note, “Wealth is Health”.
Several health insurance schemes and types like a family or individual plan, a self employed plan, a group plan, a child-only policy, seniors and high risk applicants, short-term policy, student insurance, health savings accounts, dental insurance and even discount cards are readily available. However, health care costs are escalating four times faster than wages and it’s no surprise that affordable health care has progressively emerged as an important prerogative. In America, health care costs continue to grow at a rate faster than the rest of the economy thus escalating their financial burden. From 2003 when almost one-fifth of American families were spending more than 10 percent of their disposable income on health care, the cumulative cost of premiums has increased to 91 percent by 2007, while more than one-quarter of adults reported not obtaining treatment or prescription drugs because of cost. America’s health system is in crisis, costing too much and leaving out around 45 million Americans who lack health insurance. With premiums growing five times faster than wages, some Americans have access to the most sophisticated medical care in the world, while millions are struggling to pay and are left to overcrowded emergency rooms, under-funded clinics, post-dated appointments or no health care at all. The greatest challenge of our time is to subsidize insurance and help facilitate the health care system to everyone at an affordable cost, based on income levels. Health insurance is particularly acute for individuals requiring adequate treatment of chronic illnesses and other conditions that require lengthy and more expensive medical care and increased use of health insurance. Florida, among the 50 States ranked 41 in health terms, based on a study conducted by the United Health Foundation in 2007. A low graduation rate, high violent crime rate and a high rate of infectious disease can be attributed to such a low ranking. The cost of health care in Florida is also ranked “high” in terms of health care cost while its quality being quite “low”.
With IT applications set to establish itself in the US, health providers would provide a quality focused health care system promising to improve lives, boost health care productivity and lower the costs. Improving health care quality, mapping clinical and payment data to health care outcomes and healthy system efficiency could well become revolutionary for the world health care.

Psychologists Imperative in Curing Mental Disorders

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

Mental health disorders are more common than one would think. There are numerous mental health disorders known to man. Some are not too serious, but others can be so severe that the individual will find it hard to live a normal life. Individuals with full-scale mental disorders could have problems keeping a job or sustaining healthy social relationships. Regardless of whether the individual is inflicted with a mild mental disorder or a more serious one, seeking the help of a psychologist is always essential.

Common Mental Health Disorders

The most commonly known mental health disorders are phobia, panic attack, post-traumatic stress, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, and schizophrenia. All of these mental illnesses can be treated by a qualified psychologist.

A phobia is an extreme fear of a particular thing. Phobias of heights, spiders, and confined spaces are very common. An individual with this disorder will often experience an increased heart rate and maybe some nausea when facing their particular fear. Today, psychologists sometimes use exposure-based treatments to cure phobias.

Panic attacks generally occur when one is very nervous or worried. They can also happen without any justified cause. Panic attacks cause difficulty in breathing, dizziness, and sweating.

Post-traumatic stress is a disorder that occurs after a disturbing experience, such as a car accident or rape. The symptoms of this include flashbacks, nightmares, insomnia, and depression. Psychologists usually treat post-traumatic stress by allowing patients to continuously express their feelings about their experience.

Individuals with irrational and obsessive behavior, such as repeated hand-washing and excessive cleaning, are diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder. Individuals with this illness often feel anxiety and distress if they do not carry out their obsessive rituals.

Depression is yet another common mental illness. This is characterized by extreme sadness that lasts for weeks, months, or even years. The symptoms of depression include sleep disturbances, anxiety, guilt, and thoughts of suicide.

Schizophrenia is one of the more severe types of mental health disorders. Its symptoms include delusions, strange and erratic behavior, and hallucinations.

Importance of Consulting a Psychologist

Given the complexity of mental health disorders, it is impossible to make a self-diagnosis, let alone find a treatment for yourself. Mental health disorders are illnesses and thus need to be treated by clinical psychologists.

Individuals may shy away from seeking a psychologist because of embarrassment or because of the stigma attached to mental health disorders. However, you must remember that without the help of a certified psychologist, the situation can spiral out of control. With proper treatment, most mental illnesses can be effectively cured.

Finding a Psychologist in Your Area
